Join Durham C.A.N. (Congregations, Associations, and Neighborhoods) in expressing support for the request of Triangle Transit to enter into the New Starts Engineering Phase for the Durham-Orange Light Rail Transit Project

By signing below, you are joining Durham CAN in expressing SUPPORT for the proposed Durham-Orange Light Rail project and its public investment, economic development, employment and transportation benefits.

What is the Durham-Orange Light Rail Train? "The proposed Durham-Orange Light Rail Transit (D-O LRT) Project is a 17.1 mile light rail transit line which extends from UNC (UNC Hospitals Station) to east Durham (Alston Avenue Station). The D-O LRT alignment connects a range of educational, medical, employment, and other important activity centers, park-and-ride lots, transfer centers, the Durham Amtrak Station, and the Durham Station."

Why support the light rail? The Durham-Orange Light Rail will:

  • provide better access to jobs for local residents.
  • benefit business and will spur additional economic development for the region.
  • improve access and mobility for those who travel in the Durham and Chapel Hill area.
  • reduce traffic congestion and it can increase transit ridership overall, which is particularly needed in a time of population growth in the area.
  • PLUS, Durham County and the City of Durham support the development of affordable housing around light rail stops by agreeing to designate at least 15% of affordable housing near light rail stations.

Join Durham CAN in supporting local, regional, state and federal decision makers in enhancing transit opportunities.
