I have been a resident of Johns Island for 8 years, and have seen the population explode. Homes are being built with no plan to accommodate the needs of the new residents moving to the island each day. We currently have one major grocery store to meet the need of the entire island. With a growing traffic problem, bringing another major grocery chain to Johns Island will cut down on the amount of traffic coming and going across the Stono Bridge and Main Road (in many cases, going to the Harris Teeter or Publix on James island/West Ashley.) There have been many times that I’ve had to go multiple places trying to shop for my family of five because many of the staple items are out of stock due to high demand. I also know I’m not the only one who has been frustrated at the time spent waiting to check out in lines that go half way down the isle. I LOVE my home, and I LOVE our island, but I think it is time to provide the necessary infrastructure to take care of the families who reside here. Let’s make our beautiful Johns Island - which, incidentally, happens to be the LARGEST island in our state - more self sufficient and stop expecting Food Lion to service the needs of the entire island.
