Change State laws to help protect victims with violent domestic partners who are afraid to testify against their violent abuser.

The Issue

Ronnesha Simms was a loving mother, very beautiful, passionate, and 29 years old. On September 10, 2013, Ronnesha’s ex-boyfriend stabbed her multiple times on her front lawn in front of their 2 small children; Ronnesha died within the hour.
Ronnesha had filed assault charges against her ex-boyfriend in the past and pleaded for help through the court system saying she was afraid for her life after he would beat her on numerous occasions and threaten to kill her. For fear of his retaliation, threats and torment that he promised and would do; if she testified against this very violent ex-boyfriend who had a long criminal record; she did not testify against him.
Before he killed Ronnesha; he kidnapped a woman getting off the city bus with her small child and attempted to sexually assault her, this woman also was afraid to testify against him and the court system let him walk free to kill our beloved Ronnesha. Ronnesha’s plead went unanswered. He should have never been allowed to walk the street. He should have been incarcerated, while incarcerated he should have been evaluated for his mental state of mind before letting him out to kill someone.
Now there are 2 small children who will be raised without a “Mother’s Love.”
There are so many women/men who are being abused and are afraid to come out of the dark and break the silence; even worse; every minute someone is killed by a violent domestic partner. We who are survivors must speak for those who won’t and for those who can’t.
