The formal planning application to demolish the countryside around Old Sarum Airfield was posted in the Salisbury Journal on Thursday 16th April. While no recent advice or information was given to locals and certainly no notices have been posted in the area, we should remind ourselves of our core objections to this outrageous money grabbing proposal. 1. The site is NOT identified as a strategic site. It only has 'potential' for development in the Core Strategy. 2. We wish to preserve the ONE HUNDRED year old airfield which is in a “CONSERVATION AREA”. These proposals can be fairly interpreted as endangering the continued activity of the airfield. 3. We are endeavouring to preserve the vital green space and environment corridor, while keeping the perimeter intact, which is the only remaining one of its kind in the country. 4. These proposals represent a massive over development which cannot be sustained by the current infrastructure 5. Information given by the developer cannot substantiate the claim that there will be continuous flying for the next 100 years 6. Area C includes land which is owned separately from the Airfield , this will NOT contribute to the claim of enabling continued flying 7. Wiltshire Councils current policy of 40% affordable housing appears to have been totally left out 8.Wiltshire Councils own guidelines for development of this type, which were ratified recently, and have not been adhered to First opportunity to help: COUNCIL PLANNING MEETING - Monday, 20th April Salisbury City Council's planning committee will be considering the proposed additional housing sites (including the Britford Lane one - SAL2) at its meeting on Monday at 6.30pm in the Guildhall. This is an open meeting which the public and press can attend If you can come that would be appreciated. I will be posting the details of those to write to and contact concerning your objections to this planning application but PLEASE write to anyone you might feel will hear!
