Help Darling Downs Farmers Change The Proposed Inland Rail Route

The Issue

The construction of the ARTC Inland Rail Route between Yelarbon and Gowrie, Queensland, will impact the productivity of some of Australia’s most fertile agricultural and grazing land.

The construction of a railway line raised to 2 metres in height in strategic cropping land will have devastating effects on

1. The natural flow of flood water across the Condamine Flood Plains.
2. The movement of agricultural machinery within properties.
3. The control and management of weeds.
4. The potential harm to grazing land and stock in the area.
5. The devastating impact to property values in the towns alongside the proposed route.

Small rural towns along the proposed route such as Brookstead, Mt Tyson, Millmerran, Millwood and Inglewood will be detrimentally impacted by the construction in significantly close proximity to homes, properties, business’ and schools.

The construction of the rail line on the proposed route will also impact on the environmentally sensitive habitat of the endangered Grassland Earless Dragon (Tympanocryptis condaminensis).

The impact will be devastating to generational family farms, all landholders and residents of the area. These people are currently facing a lack of consultation, limited information and the sense their views and opinions are being ignored.

Enough information has not been provided to show that a thorough investigation of alternative routes has been undertaken.

The solution is simple: The proposed route of the Inland Rail must be redirected away from those areas of agricultural and environmental significance. Our community and wider communities need to come together and help the small minority of Farmers and their families, who are going to be consequently affected by this Inland Rail fight for their rights!
