End Racism in Our Community: Drexel University

End Racism in Our Community: Drexel University
Why this petition matters
Racism is clearly visible in our country. People of color have been oppressed for hundreds of years, however, our African American brothers and sisters are amongst the most oppressed in our country. As the oppressed protest in the mists of a global pandemic, it should be in our best interest to help our brothers and sisters in fighting for change. A change that should start in our community, on and off campus.
Change must be made in our community at Drexel. The use of racism is too prominent in a community that accepts all forms of people. We should be educating all students on how racism is promoted by the silence of others, and even by the use of racial slurs even if not intended to inflict injustice. Drexel University does well by informing all incoming freshmen of sexual harassment and abuse. They do so by holding presentations for the students during welcome week. These same measures should be taken for racism. These measures should be done yearly for each academic year, not just for those entering our community.
If all students become educated on racism and its effects in our community, I truly believe it could help those who attend our school who feel oppressed. It is one small step, but a step that we must take; a step in the right direction.
