It is not the breed, it is the owner. Pitbulls are like any other dog breed.

The Issue

“You made me what I am today, courage at its best. You wanted me to know no fear, a cut above the rest. Not only did I master that, I’ve thrown in loyalty, too. Look past my eyes, into my soul, you know I’d die for you. I’ll watch your kids, I’ll watch your house, your praise will be my crown. Ask what you will, I’ll do my best, I’ll even be your clown. But some of you don’t like me, I’m sure I don’t know why. The only thing I’m guilty of is courage, love and try. But still they want to see me go, they want my bred to end. Will I see you sitting idly by? You, whom I call a friend? You made me what I am today, you never saw me waiver. I’ve done my best to keep you safe. Won’t you please return the favor.”

Since the beginning of the 19th century humans have been breeding pitbulls because of their distinct abilities to prosper in dogfighting and bull baiting. The main reason that we have vicious pitbulls is the connection between the dog and their owner. In most cases the dogs that bite people are socially isolated because their owner is socially isolated and they are aggressive because their owners want an aggressive dog. Just because a dog is a pitbull does not mean that it is an aggressive fighting machine. The junk-yard German shepherd, which gives of the impression that it could rip your throat out in seconds, and the German Shepherd Seeing Eye dogs are one in the same breed of dogs. In 2014 there were reports of absolutely awful Labrador attacks but, yet they are still considered one of the ultimate family dogs.

I personally have a pit bull, who's life did not start out in the best light. We rescued him, when the police said 'that the next time they saw him they were going to put him down. When we first got him I would not even be in the same room as him and now he sleeps in the same bed as me. I can pick him up and wrestle him with out even a growl. He is just a loveable teddy bear. He even gets a long great with little kids.

Meet Sargent Stubby he served in World War I, he saved his unit and we gave him a medal, and now the country that he served wants to destroy his kind. Humans buy pit bulls, they over bred them, we cut of their ears, we beat them, and we make them fight and they’re the ones we ban. The average number of people killed in America every year by cigarettes is 440,000; by automobiles is 42,366; by second hand smoking is 35,000; by guns is 29,338; and pitbulls is 3. Which would you ban? I think that this bred should be allowed in the city limits as long as it is on a chain and in a fenced in back yard.
