Help us save Miramar Beach in Half Moon Bay, California

The Issue

Powerful ocean waves have torn away several feet from Mirada Road in Half Moon Bay. This has left a sewer main a few feet from collapse and a beach just weeks away from environmental disaster. Homes and businesses are on the verge of being condemned while the city, state, county and coastal organizations remain without a solution; barred by politics and a lack of interagency cooperation.

What's left of the road, now barely wide enough to drive on, teeters on the verge of collapse, hanging on for emergency resources that have not arrived. Just a few feet remain before raw sewage will pour into the Miramar beach surf; devastating the fragile marine ecosystem.

Phase I emergency permits and 100 tons of rip rap have been installed but it's not enough to prevent further damage. A Phase II emergency permit and funds are needed to build a sea wall to protect the street and beach from further damage and we need your help.

Michael Powers and Nani Venegas have been hard at work to save Mirada Rd from falling into the ocean by bringing much needed attention to the matter. Others are creating petitions to bring emergency relief to the street. Please share your photos, sign and share the petitions like this one, and help us save Mirada Rd and Miramar Beach. See news footage from the past several days below. Follow us on Facebook and Instagram for continuing coverage and more about what you can do to help.

Thanks so much,
- Friends of Miramar
