There are 10,000 puppy mills in the United States.  They produce 2 million puppies each year.  Shelters are euthanizing over 1.5 million dogs per year, including purebreds.  Puppy mills are torture for the breeding dogs.  They are confined several to a cage, stacked several cages high and the feces and urine drop on the dogs below them.  They never get exercise, walk on grass or feel the sun.  They have no protection from the weather.  They are given very little food or water.  They receive no veterinary care. Sick animals die or are shot.  Puppies that are not sold become more breeding pairs.  According to the PACT law recently passed federally, it is now a felony to abuse animals.  However, the cruelty and abuse at puppy mills continues to go on and isn’t covered under the PACT law.  Puppy mills need to be banned and closed in every state..  Look at your dog or a dog if someone you know.  Can you live with the fact it may have come from a puppy mill where sick and dying dogs are nothing more than trash?  A purebred doesn’t make it a good dog.  The pet parent makes the dog a good dog and that is accomplished easily through rescuing.
