The Orange City Animal Shelter is required to keep found pets for 72 hours before they are euthanized, so why were Roxy and her 11 pups killed in just two? I want the City of Orange, Texas to investigate the animal shelter to see how many more lost pets they have killed without giving them a chance to be found.

My name is Heather Cote. Recently my newspaper did a story on a young family who lost their family pet due to negligence at the local animal shelter. I, like many other readers, was shocked to learn that just two hours after Roxy was taken to the shelter, she and her 11 pups were put down.  My fear is that this is not the first case and that the animal shelter employees have taken it upon themselves to be the judge and juror when it comes to when and when not to euthanize an animal, regardless of stated policy.

As pet owners, we have the right to know that those who are charged with safeguarding our animals when they have gone astray are there because they have compassion both for the pets and the pet owners. In my opinion, the fact that they so quickly put down this dog and her litter demonstrates that they have done this before.

The Landsittel family will never get Roxy and her puppies back but we can make sure there is accountability and perhaps bring justice to her and those other pets that may have been prematurely euthanized before her. Join me and tell Orange City to do a proper and thorough investigation of the animal shelter and make sure this never happens again.
