Our vision is to transform the future of Lazy K-Bar:
Instead of just another high-end conventional development that could be installed anywhere, we recognize the critical location of this old guest ranch and its potential to honor a promise made to the region and its future by the citizens, biologists and scientists who helped create Pima County's Sonoran Desert Conservation Plan.
Marana's annexation of the ranch cannot ignore the facts: a one mile wide corridor, centered on Scenic Drive, is the minimum area critical to the movement of species and habitat connecting the Tucson and Tortolita Mountains.
The Town has already permitted the east half of this corridor to be breached- Lazy K would begin to destroy the west half. The Town's denial of their duty to help conserve this small corridor of natural and recreational resource and connectivity is heartbreaking- and made even more painful by thirty years of outreach, education and collaboration with residents and conservation organizations. It is unfortunately up to the residents and supporters of this petition's purpose to step up and change the outcome.
Below are some links to resources that help underscore the importance of this petition to the Tucson/Tortolita linkage and beyond.
Up-rootedness is what happens when business and industry is not rooted in place. You wouldn't want to knowingly fowl your nest if you lived here. You wouldn't build a 178-home gated community in a critical regional wildlife corridor if you were rooted here. You wouldn't approve a project like this if you understood being truly rooted here. Such a small thing to understand, with such great consequences if unheeded.
