We first contacted Pulte's corporate headquarters in March, 2018, after learning they were the new potential developer of Lazy K-Bar (there have been several). Our first meeting in May seemed hopeful, but since then Pulte has not responded to emails or phone calls.

We reached out to Pulte many more times, wanting to understand more about their website's claims of corporate, social and environmental responsibility, and about their "Conservation Fund" (the fund was not available for this purpose- indeed it's unclear what Pulte's conservation money actually conserves...).

We trusted that Pulte's commitment to the environment would include a corresponding desire and diligence to honestly determine WHERE, and WHERE NOT, to develop a project of this scale, such as a sensitive site like Lazy K-Bar- especially as Pulte has more than 30 ongoing and proposed projects around Arizona.

But as of today, it appears Pulte is more interested in how well 178 half-million dollar homes "pencils out" for them and their shareholders than helping to conserve special places in the communities where they live and work.

In fact, as we researched Pulte's claims of environmental responsibility, only one published story of Pulte's conservation activity was found, in 2011.

We appear to be in the final hours of possibility for either human or divine intervention (or both!) to save Lazy K-Bar, the North Safford Peak Watershed and the regional wildlife linkage: will it be a cascade of degenerative impacts to nature and culture, or an enlightened way forward?

We are still building the team of eco-investors and philanthropists who know and love the Sonoran Desert and its special places, who will help create a new paradigm for conservation and development in our watershed.
