I live in Columbus Indiana and all to often witness animals left alone in vehicles while their owners do their errands.  Sometimes for long periods of time, with total disregard for the temperature inside the vehicle.

I would like to see our state law makers amend the Indiana cruelty law to include this action. The current law specifically covers many violations, but does not focus on this particular issue. There are currently sixteen states that have laws covering this violation, with specific penalties.  We need to make Indiana number seventeen.

Changing the wording of the law would give law enforcement more power to address this with the offenders.  They could council, educate, cite, and if necessary, remove the animal from a potentially deadly situation.

Extreme temperatures in a vehicle can have many adverse effects on animals.  They range from stress, to heat stroke and even death.  It is our responsibility to protect and fight for the innocent pets we love so much.  We can't let this act to continue to put them in harms way.  Make the change and save a life.
