I first encountered Shun Da Live Poultry when I was saving three chickens. I found a live poultry shop with the worst reviews possible, and little to no surprise they were all correct. I went into the store and the chickens and other birds were crammed into small cages, with no food or water available in 90 degree weather. When the worker got the chickens from the cages to give to me, he picked them up by their feet and hung them upside down, then shoved them into my crate like they were rag dolls and not living animals. When I brought the chickens back home, it seemed like they have never been outside, experienced any type of positive human interaction, and don't even know how to be chickens. Their underbellies are plucked from stress, red and irritated, and almost matted. I understand people eat meat but there is a humane way to do it and this shop is not that. Chickens have been portrayed as stupid their lives discredited because of this. However scientific studies have shown otherwise, that chickens are social and intelligent beings, very similar to wild fowls when allowed to live their natural lives. Please sign this petition to tell mayor Jim Kenney to end these inhumane practices and to bring attention to the World Animal Protection USA to help train humane practices to this company and others like it in Philly.
