Reverse plans to allow fans to attend Clemson Football Games.
The Issue
As it has been decided to allow a limited number of fans and merely "discouraging" tailgating at Clemson football games, there is a very real risk of a COVID cluster forming at Death Valley. Considering infection rates and positive COVID tests are decreasing in SC, aggressive action must be maintained to continue this downward trend.
At football games, people will gather because of human nature. No amount of assigned seating and gate entrances procedures akin to that of boarding an airplane can change the fact that, people will naturally gather together before and after the game, thus acting as vectors for the pandemic.
Should people get sick and pass due to contracting COVID due to getting it in or around the stadium, the name "Death Valley" shall become sadly ironic.
It is an agonizing proposition for both the business owners who depend on the revenue brought by gamedays and fans to forgo an in-person season; however the recent abrupt closures of Chapel Hill and NC State have demonstrated COVID can and will spread anywhere people gather, therefore the University and Athletic Department must take responsibility for the lives of those in attendance.
The life of a Clemson Tiger is a valuable one, one not worth risking over a game.
