Return to the Zoom video conferencing platform in Clark County School District

Return to the Zoom video conferencing platform in Clark County School District
The Issue
As educators, we are supposed to model fact-driven inquiry and sound decision-making. This is why we are calling for CCSD leaders to embrace a return to using Zoom as our official video platform.
Zoom was initially banned simply because a few security options were not turned on by default when you used the platform, meaning you could potentially join a meeting you weren’t invited to.
However, when those security options are enabled, Zoom is far and away more secure than any other option. Zoom has since moved to default security options that exceed Citrix and Skype/Teams, and the underlying architecture is years more sophisticated than the competition.
Additionally, the fail rate of the alternatives is so high that it should be weighed and measured as a risk as serious as security. This is what we are experiencing with alternative and grossly inadequate platforms. If you don’t use Zoom, you will be using legacy technology that will soon be obsolete. The risks with legacy technology will grow over time.
Tech finance professionals will tell you that Zoom has and will continue to take market share in this realm. Zoom is the best company in this space. There has never been a debate on this.
IT professionals will tell you that if you aren’t using Zoom because of security reasons, you don’t understand video conferencing or internet security as a whole.
Teachers deserve the best tools and we shouldn't be hamstrung with inferior technology undermining our efforts. It's time we listened to these experts so that we can solve our technology woes and get on with what we do best - educating our kids.
Zoom - the platform that America's universities are using for their online teaching - is cutting edge technology that fits our needs. Zoom is secure. Zoom is the platform CCSD should be using for distance learning this fall.
Join me in urging our district leadership to make this call.
