This evening, we met with the DHSC to talk  more about the details of our campaign directed towards General Practice doctors: ‘Three Strikes and We Rethink’. There seems little doubt that the recommendations will be implemented; however, it is most likely this will take the form of Jess’s Rule—not legislation. We have agreed to this, provided that its implementation is accompanied by clear and meaningful actions.

One of these actions is the display of a poster in every consulting room across the country. This will remind GPs that red flag symptoms, regardless of the patient's age, must be thoroughly investigated. If a patient shows no sign of improvement by the third consultation, their case must be fully reviewed.

R – Review the case thoroughly after three unresolved or escalating presentations.
E – Elevate the concern for a fresh-eyes approach and clinical reassessment.
T – Think again, especially if the original diagnosis was unsubstantiated.
H – Hear the patient fully and consider what has changed or may have been missed.
I – Invite a second opinion or peer discussion within Primary Care.
N – Navigate referral to secondary care where appropriate.
K – Keep continuity with the same GP and ensure in-person assessment if previous care was remote.

The proposed date for implementing Jess’s Rule is Monday 14th July. Although this is supported by the Secretary of State for Health, Wes Streeting, it is not yet definitive and may be subject to delay.

Once again, I turn to you—the supporters of Jess’s campaign—to share this petition, encourage others to sign it, and remind your MPs of the importance of moving swiftly.

Please remember Jess—her potential, her integrity, and her determination to bring about a future where patients are heard and diagnoses are made early.

Early diagnosis saves lives.

Thank you, so, so much.
