Jersey City Resident/Visitor Parking Passes

The Issue

Edit as of 12/1/2022: Most of what I’ve written below originally still stands. We really need to urge our council people to take a look at and restructure our parking pass system. Please sign and share so we can collect our voices and show those who represent us how they can actually represent us.

I feel I have exhausted all efforts to handle this on my own, be heard, or create change and since my situation personally isn't that of a larger experience I'm pulling out the stops here.

I'd like to request the City of Jersey City make better accommodations for *resident requested* visitor parking passes.

Here are the factors that currently stand:

Residents can acquire 5 passes maximum per 30 day period, this has been in effect for as long as I've needed passes.

Passes are $10, up from $5 as of May this year. Although, even the newest batch of passes still state PHYSICALLY ON THEM that the cost per pass is $5. (Against Consumer Protection Laws)

Now, I've taken a look at visitor pass requirements for the surrounding cities, and they are as follows:

Union City: All Union City residents are entitled to two free visitor parking permits per household. Visitor permits expire 1 year from the date issued. Additional visitor parking permits are $25.00 each.

Weehawken: Provides 2 free visitor passes per household, expire 1 year from date issued. Daily scratch off passes are $2 each day.

Hoboken: Provides 7 day at a time passes for $5 per day, cannot park on Resident Only side of street.

The reason this is something I'm so deeply bothered by to do this level of research is I pet sit for work, sometimes weeks at a time, and when folks have their own driveways/garages/live in parts of town that don't require permits, I have an issue at night when I come home as I live in The Heights which has parking limits.

Jersey City needs to meet its residents in a way that reflects its needs without gouging them for the price. $10/day, 5 days per 30 is price gouging when resident parking permits are $20/year.

Please sign this petition to help let the City of Jersey City know we are disappointed in the deceptive payment practices and price gouging of its citizens. Taking a look at the nearby cities who also experience issues with parking in the same way we do and implementing some of their practices would be encouraged.
