Repeal Liberty University's decision to revoke its local affiliate scholarship program
The Issue
Liberty University’s recent decision to discontinue its local Christian affiliate school scholarship program is unfair to currently enrolled students who were promised a full LU scholarship after attending Liberty Christian Academy grades 3-12. With this new change only students who enrolled before January of 2012 will be grandfathered in and continue to receive the full, 100% scholarship. For students enrolled after 2012 through the current 2015-2016 school year, this scholarship has been revoked despite the promise of it at the time of their enrollment. The decision to not grandfather all current enrollees into the program is unfair, unethical and lacks the fundamental foundation that LU was supposedly built upon. Have the leaders of Liberty University forgotten the very principles they strive to teach? Proverbs 28:6 “Better is a poor man who walks in his integrity than a rich man who is crooked in his ways.” This recent change in policy is stripping away the right of many who were relying on this scholarship program to get their children through college at Liberty University. One would expect a higher ethical standard from such an organization that claims to be “Building Champions for Christ.” Building champions should not be synonymous with building shrines to honor your institution; it is not about how much money there is in the reserve and it’s not about making decisions based upon financial gain only – it is about people, honoring God, honoring promises made and remembering and honoring the past.
The right thing to do is to grandfather in all currently enrolled students and phase this scholarship program out for the 2016-2017 school year. This would allow promises to be honored for existing students and for new families to enroll next year under no false pretense of a scholarship to LU upon graduation from Liberty Christian Academy.
Please sign this petition to reverse this unjust decision and reinstate the full, 100% scholarship program that was stripped away from many currently enrolled LCA students.
