Remove Restrictions on Gamestop and AMC Stock Trading
Remove Restrictions on Gamestop and AMC Stock Trading
The Issue
As you may be aware online brokerages such as Robinhood and TD Ameritrade are currently restricted the trade of Gamestop (GME) and AMC stocks. This is following the spike in the value of these stocks nearly tenfold because people on the internet decided that it would be a good idea to invest in a company that they enjoyed as children. Following this boom, hedge funds, many of whom had Inverse ETF's (An agreement to buy or sell a stock at a different time) lost millions of dollars due to them essentially betting against failing companies such as Gamestop and AMC. In response brokerages such as TD Ameritrade and Robinhood, who are owned by one of these hedge funds, made the decision to freeze the trading of stocks that are personally losing them money. This is a clear and blatant restriction on free-market practices that have been a cornerstone of our nation's identity for centuries and needs to be dealt with accordingly.
Many of these hedge fund managers are screaming market manipulation while their cronies who own these trading companies are manipulating the market to protect their investments. This not only is blatant hypocrisy but is based on shaky legal footwork as well. What this petition calls for is an official complaint to be filed to the SEC, a reopening of trading in GME and AMC stocks by these brokerages, and a class-action lawsuit filed against these brokerages.
