Allow forfeiture of pensions for employees convicted of felony crimes in Minnesota.

Allow forfeiture of pensions for employees convicted of felony crimes in Minnesota.
The Issue
I would like this movement to be passed through Minnesota legislation to prevent Derek Chauvin, and other people convicted of a felony from being eligible to receive their pensions in the state of Minnesota. Allowing people who receive a felony for reasons related to their work should not be able to benefit from pensions. Following a conviction of a felony, the individual should not only be held to the fullest extent of the law, but also be denied their pensions. Instead, the pension should be reallocated to tax payer expenditures such as homeless housing, local recreation development, or social programs assisting communities in need. Let’s make sure that there is accountability for actions — not reward for actions. This will make it less likely for people who commit crimes within their workplace to commit those crimes as they will be denied their benefits as well as face prosecution to the highest extent of the law. The murder of George Floyd by Derek Chauvin should not be rewarded with our tax payer money. Let’s start holding our police force accountable for their actions so that George Floyd and other victims of police brutality in the state of Minnesota receive due justice and so that those who commit crimes in the force are not paid their pensions.
