Keep indigenous children out of foster care

The Issue

We have created a petition for our Social Studies class. We are doing an action related to the 94 calls to action, please read the petition and if you agree please sign it. We are doing the first call to action which is About child protection. We call on all governments in Canada to ensure that Indigenous children can stay at home with their families by giving the right tools and the right education to adults who work to protect children

Indigenous children are isolated from their families, cultures, communities and homes and are placed in foster parents in disproportionate proportions. Although Canada's child population is only 7.7%, 52.2% of foster parents are indigenous children. Their child welfare system is also severely weakened. Compared to non-indigenous systems, it receives 38% less money from the government. This negligence stems from family concerns such as mental health problems, substance abuse and poverty. These are all issues that Canada imposes on these communities. These kids are better worth. Indeed, there is a high rate of substance abuse, unemployment, imprisonment and low education rates for children who are foster parents. These families are better worth. Indeed, there is a lack of funding from the government not only for the child welfare system, but also for education, medical care, water and sanitation.

One of our goals with this petition is to be able to raise awareness for those all around Canada, to inform them of what is happening or rather try to get them to understand the issues in with how indigenous children are treated. Another of our goals is to get our petition signed by enough people to send to Jennica Atwin so she can try to help change this and help keep indigenous children safe and happy.
