The Issue

We are a pet and human family. Here are my cats pet dogs. On April 15 Mr. Dick Derr, the man living two doors down the block from me at 411 W. Main, Harrington, WA 99134, trapped my cat Sphincter in an animal trap that he had stolen from the city shop, baited with tuna fish, and then took my cat about five miles out of town to dump him. My husband caught Derr in the act as he was driving to work. As my husband got close to Dick Derr he saw Derr dump my cat onto the busy intersection of Highway 28 and Bluestem Rd. surrounded by fields full of predators such as coyotes, owls, hawks, eagles, feral dogs, and who knows what else. Upon seeing that it was my husband, Derrs neighbor, Derr took off as fast as he could in his pickup as my husband swerved to miss Sphinceter, stopped and tried to coax my cat into his car. Sphincter ran away because he was too terrified to come to his pet human. I reported this to the Sheriffs office and after my doing the investigation, finding witnesses, getting the RCW's in line and trying several times to get the theft of my cat taken seriously, finally they did an investigation. The deputy prosecutor will not prosecute Derr because he said he has never had a case like this before and does not think it is a prosecutable offense. The 3 gross misdemeanors committed by Derr are not illegal and there is no proof according to the deputy prosecutor. I want justice. I feel betrayed by the leagal system and I know this must be prosecuted or Derr will never stop killing, traping and dumping neighborhood small pets. The photo above is of Sphincters pet dogs who miss him too.
