African American Women Fighting for Justice In The Workplace!
The Issue
- I worked for Jefferson Parish Public Work for over 24yrs. until I was terminated in September 2019 because of my health. I was the only African American woman in this predominately male workforce. I was target by these men because of my knowledge not because of a lack of knowledge. I only had one year left before my retirement. I am still fighting to get justice for the injustice decisions made by my management and Human Resource.
- I help trained several of the male supervisors who became my boss. The manager and supervisor who were my supervisors have no knowledge of the work the department does. They were promoted over me because the assistant director had touched me inappropriately and retaliated against me because of my complaining. This assistant director sued me for defaming him. He lost the lawsuit in 2019. This assistant director also interviewed me for the superintendent II jobs in 2016, which I did not get. I had more experience than the male he was hired. The person hired is disrespectful to women and people in general.
- I wrote several grievances which became a problem for the administration and the president. My job was reassigned and given to the president cousin wife, then I was demoted to a foreman, terminated, and the job given to my foreman who they turn against me while I was out sick.
