No Walmart at HWY 129 & Old Pendergrass Road in Jefferson, GA

The Issue

WALMART IS TRYING TO COME BACK!!!

Walmart is once again eyeing the corner of Old Pendergrass Rd. and 129 bypass. An intersection that has seen more tragedies since the development of subdivision and population growth. Think of how much had to be done just to get traffic lights there and now Walmart wants to increase the traffic there.

A Walmart has no business being on that corner and creating a negative impact on that intersection as well as the schools & our community. We worked together as a community to rehabilitate and renovate the downtown area and history has shown that Walmart eats Mom & Pops shops up and spits them out. Do we really want our downtown area to look like a ghost town? Do we want to see the end of family & small businesses?

We also have to think about the impact that the current location will have on our school system. Our community was awarded Federal grant money for the Safe Ways to School program. Sidewalks are being installed down Old Pendergrass Rd. to ensure students can safely walk to school. A lot of work goes into getting Federal grants and it would be a shame to see Jefferson penalized for allowing the Walmart to go in and the sidewalks to be unused because parents don't feel like it's safe due to the increase in traffic along Old Pendergrass Rd.

Walmart is banking on the fact that they feel our community won't rally in opposition again. Please take the time to attend the Jefferson City Council meeting on May 9th at 6 pm at Jefferson Station (by the library & police station)
