Recently, the North Carolina General Assembly has introduced seven bills: three dangerous bills that will harm the LGBTQ+ community, and four bills that will make common-sense reforms so that the LGBTQ+ community can live their lives happily:

• H358: Requiring transgender youth playing on sports teams to play with their gender assigned at birth

• S514: Banning youth transgender healthcare, outing transgender students to their parents, and protecting conversion therapy

• S515: Allowing healthcare providers to discriminate based on LGBTQ+ status

• H449/S409: Will end the “gay/trans panic” defense, a defense that sweeps violence against the LGBTQ+ community under the rug

• H450/S396: Statewide protection against discrimination for for LGBTQ+ people

• H451/S438: Repealing the HB142 and HB2 act that discriminated against LGBTQ+ people

• H452/S392: Prohibiting conversion therapy statewide

Over 382,000 North Carolinians are part of the LGBTQ+ community, and it is important that they are protected. It is inhumane that in 2021, politicians are still bullying the LGBTQ+ community with harmful laws such as H358, S514 and S515 and allowing discrimination against the LGBTQ+ community, the "gay/trans panic" defense, HB142 and HB2, and conversion therapy to still occur in our state. 

By signing this petition, we urge the General Assembly to pass H449/S409, H450/S396, H451/S438 and H452/S392, and say no to H358, S514 and S515.
