Students district wide are made entirely uncomfortable by the dress code. The rules of the dress code are entirely outdated; they do not allow students to express themselves, dress comfortably for the weather, and the rules force students to hide their sense of style. Students feel sexualized by ADULTS pointing out parts of their bodies that are too attractive to be shown, this creates an unsafe learning environment and prevents students from reaching their full academic potential. We’re tired of the discrimination and inconsistency that dress code has created. It has been made clear that dress code does not apply to everyone, but simply applies to those who’s body’s are deemed distracting by the Williamson County School Board as well as staff members of WILCO schools. We would also like to point out that as students, being sent to the office during class is far more distracting/disrupting than a piece of clothing could ever be. It is also obvious that this district wide policy is not equally enforced throughout all of the schools. By refining the dress code, all of these problems would be solved. Be the change, help the students.
