50,000 is an impressive number of signatures for our first week of this campaign but we’ve got to keep at it. We only have two more weeks and have yet to hear from our U.S. Elected Officials. Getting senator support is paramount to our success. I’ve made it really convenient for you to email and call the U.S. Senators who sit on the Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee, which often advises the FDA. I’ve provided their phone numbers and easy links to their contact pages. There's also a copy & paste sample letter (if you’re not sure what to say). If you’re relatively new to the GM6 Campaign, please understand that I’m sending out these “email a senator” requests periodically. Don’t get annoyed. I’m just trying to contact all the people who are relatively new to signing our petition and encouraging people to be actively involved. If you’re a non-U.S. citizen: It's my understanding that the senators' contact forms require the sender to have a U.S. residential (or military) address. You won't be able to email them. If you are a U.S. citizen: • Be sure to email or call the U.S. Senator from your home state first. • Then, or if a senator from your home state isn’t on the list (meaning they do not sit on the HELP Committee) email: TN-Lamar Alexander and WA-Patty Murray. They are the top-ranking Republican and Democratic senators on the HELP Committee. • Everyone, also please contact AK-Lisa Murkowski. The senator has been an active supporter of the ALS Community in the past. The credit for this new and improved version of our “Sample Letter to Senators” goes to an outspoken supporter of our effort to get Genervon’s GM6 to people with ALS. A big “thank you” to: Jay Smith, Founder Every 90 Minutes Foundation http://www.every90minutes.org/ And, thanks to everyone here for your continued support and all your hard work. Remember to post our campaign on Facebook, Tweet, and use any social media at your disposal. If you have a relationship with the press or anyone with any type of following, please ask them to get involved. Warmest regards, Nick gm6nick@gmail.com [SAMPLE LETTER TO SENATORS] (COPY & PASTE) Dear I am writing to express interest in the approval status of a bio-drug produced by Genervon Biopharmaceuticals known as GM604 or GM6. This drug was granted a fast track designation for the treatment of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS, or Lou Gehrig’s Disease) in 2013 and was also awarded an orphan drug designation by the FDA on March 3, 2014 for the treatment of ALS. On January 8th, 2015, Genervon announced that it had submitted results of its single compassionate patient trial (GALS-C) to the FDA of drug candidate GM6. In early February, representatives from Genervon plan to meet with the FDA to request accelerated approval of GM6 for all ALS patients. They plan to supplement their case with evidence of demonstrated safety, statistically significant efficacy between treated and placebo groups in biomarker data. I fully appreciate the vast importance of the FDA’s comprehensive and thorough approval process, and the role of the agency in protecting public health. I also respectfully request that Genervon be given full and fair consideration as they discuss the need for accelerated approval of GM6 with the FDA. GM6 should be advanced to conditional approval in a post-marketing surveillance program. In their Phase 2 trial, they demonstrated safety. Waiting for a Phase 3 trial will result in certain death for thousands of ALS. Currently Riluzole is the only FDA approved drug for ALS and increases the life span of a small number of patients by only a few months. Please speak out today and urge the FDA to allow the accelerated approval of GM6. Doing so could mean rescue from ALS for many tens of thousands stricken with this terrible disease and perhaps change the course of ALS and its prognosis in the future.
