Keep the 1st Amendment on Pennsylvania Avenue!

The Issue

For the last decade, the words of the 1st Amendment have proudly stood 75-feet high, etched in marble on the outside wall of 555 Pennsylvania Avenue in Washington, DC. Politicians, tourists, and DC residents alike have been reminded of the core freedoms guaranteed each of us in the Constitution.

On January 25, 2019, the Freedom Forum announced it has sold the building to Johns Hopkins. According to news reports, the Freedom Forum will remove the 7-story stand for freedom from Pennsylvania Avenue when it vacates the building later this year.

To have the 1st Amendment removed from Pennsylvania Ave at this moment in time - when our free press is under attack, when our free speech is often challenged, and when we must have the freedom to assemble - would symbolize a retreat from a guarantee of freedom that this country has stood for since its beginning and that hundreds of thousands of our men and women have paid the ultimate sacrifice defending.

This petition asks that the Freedom Forum and Johns Hopkins work together to stand for the 1st Amendment, Freedom, and the United States of America, and reach an agreement to “Keep the 1st Amendment on Pennsylvania Avenue!”
