Remove Warren K. Coleman as President/CEO of The JMU Foundation Immediately
The Issue
On December 8, 2017 the James Madison University Foundation Board elected Warren K. Coleman as its next CEO and president. The JMU Foundation is the primary support organization of the University charged with providing an "ever growing and sustainable source of private support." The University cites Coleman's "extensive business experience" as "co-founder and chief financial officer of the ICA and Farmville, LLCs" (JMU) as qualifications for his position.
What the University fails to expand on in this release is that the Immigration Centers of America (ICA) is a private immigrant prison that partners with ICE (Immigration, Customs, and Enforcement) and currently operates in Farmville, VA. ICA-Farmville is considered to be the immigrant prison with the highest rates of COVID-19 in the country (RVA Mag). Throughout its lifetime, ICA has been responsible for countless abuses, mistreatment, and even death. The recent news that hysterectomies are being performed on immigrant women makes this all the more alarming. Warren Coleman is a prison profiteer that lined his pockets doing ICE's dirty work.
Even while earning an annual salary of $175,000 from the JMU Foundation, Coleman continues to serve as CEO of ICA Transportation LLC, a transportation subcontractor for ICA. In nearly a decade of operating, who knows how many families Warren Coleman separated? As he transports people to and from the immigrant prison he started, who knows how many people and communities Coleman has exposed to COVID-19?
If James Madison University is committed to integrity, then it will do the right thing and fire Warren Coleman. If JMU is committed to building positive relationships, it will cut ties with a man who made millions separating families. If JMU is committed to leadership and service, it will lead by example and take a stand against prison profiteers like Coleman. If JMU is committed to collaboration and learning, it will work with current students and faculty to ensure that JMU doesn't continue to partner with human rights violators like Coleman. If JMU is committed to compassion, it will do the right thing and fire Warren Coleman.
We DEMAND that Warren Coleman be removed from his position as CEO/President of the JMU Foundation immediately. Every dollar that is brought into the University under his watch is blood money, tainted by the countless victims that Coleman has left in his wake. Until Warren Coleman is removed, we call for a boycott of ALL charitable giving to James Madison University.

“You seen their homes? They nice. They’re comfortable. They don’t have to give a second thought about people eating food with maggots in it, or choking to death because they can’t breathe. They just go home and they extract themselves from that with the luxury that this for-profit flesh machine has created.” (RVA Mag)
