Protect sport & recreation land in Brisbane - reject BCC's Aged Care Amendment
0 have signed. Let’s get to 1,000!
Brisbane City Council has proposed amendments to City Plan, which will lead to the diminishing of urban green space. BCC plans to allow development of for-profit privately-owned Aged Care facilities in Sport and Recreation zoned lands, with potentially no public appeal rights. This could affect up to one quarter of Sport and Recreation land in Brisbane.
Some of these areas are absolutely critical linkages in our urban green space network. So, if you value Brisbane's green space and lifestyle, let the Hon Jackie Trad (Minister for Transport & Minister for Infrastructure and Planning) know that you request non-approval of BCC's "Aged Care Amendment" as a matter of urgency. At the least, we need this proposal to be placed on a hold while conducting a major review of this amendment.
The State Government policy and regional plan is to provide for sufficient open space to improve our liveability and have these areas integrate with the green space network. The State Government, under this policy, has the power and responsibility to prevent this damaging amendment taking place.
These amendments, passed by BCC, now sit on the Minister's table awaiting State Government approval. This is where we can stop this disaster from happening!
The proposal will potentially allow the Aged Care developers to target struggling sporting clubs, like golf courses, bowling clubs, etc.
Given the shortage of green space in Brisbane, it makes every existing piece even more critical to our future. Demand can only increase for sport and recreation space in Brisbane. And these areas are also vital for maintaining Brisbane's natural heritage.
Brisbane, to be a competitive world city, must maximise its natural advantages - a city with adequate green space and a healthy, sustainable environment which provides the liveability that business and individuals will choose.
