Remove Richard Spencer from Twitter

Twitter,

We demand that you immediately remove Richard Spencer (@RichardBSpencer), an influential fascist and white supremacist, from your platform. Your policies forbid “hateful conduct” and “accounts whose primary purpose is inciting harm towards others on the basis of race, ethnicity, national origin, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity, religious affiliation, age, disability, or disease.”

Without question, the primary purpose of Spencer’s account is to incite harm and intolerance towards others on ALL of these bases, particularly the bases of race, ethnicity, national origin, and gender. While Spencer intentionally avoids explicitly condoning violence, he uses your channel to stealthily incite different kinds of harm against the aforementioned marginalized groups by constantly disparaging them in crude, vile ways and strategically stoking the flames of fear and hate. He has used your virtual platform to incubate a movement of extremist terror (the so-called alt-right) that has begun to take horrifying shape in the real world. He is instrumental in fostering a toxic environment of racial animus that has emboldened other white supremacists and led to the murders of seven bright Americans: Taliesin Myrddin Namkai-Meche, Ricky John Best, Timothy Caughman, Richard Collins III, Lieutenant H. Jay Cullen, Trooper-Pilot Berke M. M. Bates, and Heather Heyer.

Henry A. Wallace once said, “The American fascist would prefer not to use violence. His method is to poison the channels of public information.” While Spencer’s rage-filled followers do his ugly, thinly veiled bidding, he is insidiously poisoning your channel, and you’re letting him.

The right to free speech is NOT the right to a platform. And your specific platform is critical to the success of Richard Spencer's murderous movement. “Good tech isn't optional for fringe movements—it's oxygen,” wrote tech columnist Kevin Roose. “And de-platforming could be the single most effective tactic against them.”

Suspend Spencer’s account for violating your rules and those of basic humanity, or remain complicit in violence.

Please note that we can’t even use our real names because we will be harassed on your platform by Spencer's Twitter army.
