Ivanhoe Primary School: Investigate Child Safety Failures

The issue

As a parent of a young student at Ivanhoe Primary School, I am deeply concerned about the way the school responded when my daughter, Mia who is in foundation, reported serious inappropriate behaviour from another student.

Despite raising these concerns through the appropriate channels, the school’s response left us feeling unsupported and unheard. In my experience, the steps taken did not align with the level of urgency and care we expected under the Department of Education’s Child Safe Standards.

Since I began speaking out, several other families have contacted me privately to share similar experiences alleging inaction, delays, and a lack of meaningful follow-through when they raised concerns. These stories suggest there may be a broader issue with how student safety concerns are being managed at Ivanhoe Primary School.

If these patterns continue, more children may be left feeling unsafe, unsupported, or silenced. When a school doesn’t act quickly or transparently, it risks eroding the trust families place in them to protect their children.

That’s why we must act now to make sure all students at Ivanhoe Primary feel safe, heard, and properly supported. Delaying action risks more harm and further disempowers parents and children trying to do the right thing by speaking up.

This petition respectfully calls on:

The Department of Education Victoria to conduct a full and independent investigation into how Ivanhoe Primary School has handled recent and historical child safety concerns.

The school’s leadership team to be reviewed for its handling of student wellbeing matters, in line with Victoria’s Child Safe Standards.

Stronger systems to be implemented across schools to ensure that student protection and parent concerns are treated with urgency, transparency, and accountability.

I am speaking up not just for Mia, but for every child who deserves to feel safe and supported at school.

I never thought what was meant to be a fun start to her schooling experience would lead to anything like this.

Please sign and share this petition to demand accountability and lasting change at Ivanhoe Primary School.
