Demanding change from UAW Local 12

The Issue

We the members of the UAW Local 12 Jeep Unit are signing this petition to formally denounce the willful negligence of duties of our elected committee. We are sick. We are tired. And we are sick and tired of being ignored by those our dues pay to represent us. We are here to demand answers and action from you and excuses will no longer be tolerated.

This serves as a formal petition that we are demanding that our chairman, Brian Simms, call an emergency meeting. Covid is not an excuse to not hold meetings if we can be on the line all day without social distancing measures. We demand this committee hold a meeting at the hall inside or outside with an opportunity for those who cannot attend in person to listen in via Zoom or some other electronic means by next Friday, July 17th, 2020.

We demand that our committee members come out of their air conditioned offices and spend a minimum of 3 hours per day on the floor, educating the membership, listening to concerns, and holding management accountable for breaking our contract and arbitrarily punishing us using Covid as an excuse.

We demand a committee member be present on scene of EVERY suspected case of Covid that occurs. Any contaminated area must be immediately and throughly disinfected before operations resume.

We demand that teams be notified of confirmed or suspected infections within one hour of being reported so that others may quarantine as needed.

We demand that the membership be informed that it is their RIGHT by law to collect unemployment while quarantined.

We demand timely communication by plant medical when it comes to Covid cases. The lack of communication is leaving people stuck in limbo without pay and is not acceptable.

We demand that the committee hold the company responsible to their promises of slower line speeds and running every other pallet so that social distancing can be practiced.

We demand that the committee give the company a three day notice on our local contract that has been expired for nearly 10 months. This will in the least afford us 9 hour days instead of 10 which is a reasonable expectation in the current working conditions.

We demand PAA days be reinstated effective immediately.

We demand answers as to how many people are currently confirmed positive and out for exposure due to Covid in the plant and daily updates of those numbers.

We demand that Supplementals be rolled over to fill the open bid jobs and floater positions. The company is using SEs to circumvent full time hiring which is a direct violation of our contract. Belvedere has had plenty of time to send their people. We no longer accept this as an excuse.

We demand more general cleaning of this plant DAILY in all areas including handrails and turnstiles. We demand ALL bathrooms be operational and available with pressurized hot water, automatic soap and paper towel dispensers, and hand sanitizer within the next 7 days.

We demand our AC and ventilation systems be upgraded to ensure that our members are safe from heat stroke due to working long hours in a mask on brutally hot days.

We demand that you either start working for US, effective immediately or STEP DOWN. We are prepared to formally start the election recall process if these demands are not met with sincerity by you as of now. We are done being silent and complacent. The lack or representation is gross negligence of your duties and will no longer be tolerated.

This statement will be read again for the formal record at our emergency meeting.

Update: we recognized your attempt to change yet we will be holding you to your word. If your word deems invaluable we will invoke the rank and file immediately.
