Why this petition matters

Started by Harvey Stevens

I am writing to request the immediate termination of the gameshow ‘Tenable’ whilst we are facing the COVID-19 crisis. I believe that it threatens the integrity of ITV’s daytime schedule.

I, along with many others, have found myself sat at home in near-on isolation over the past few days, and my experience has not been made any more pleasurable by the presence of Warwick Davis’s gameshow. Having become an avid daytime television fan, and an admirer of ITV’s strong presence within the pre-evening entertainment industry, I have been nothing but disappointed at 3 o’clock every day.

As I arise for the day of isolation ahead, I sit back and gleefully glide from Lorraine Kelly’s sofa to Phil and Holly’s in the morning, before I join the Loose Women for the highlight of my daytime TV journey at 12:30. Even though Judge Rinder has been temporarily replaced with ‘Judge Rinder’s Crime Stories’ at 2, it has been welcomed as a more-than-worthy change, providing an aura of factual mystery to my day. For this, I have to give you praise.

But then we get to the crux of the matter. As the cheesy, cheap and unoriginal theme tune begins to pain my ears at 3 on the dot, my interest in the daytime schedule has waned. I have tried to get on board with it, but it seems a futile quest. This is especially painful for me as it sits in the slot of the once-mighty Dickinson’s Real Deal, a show which I believe would provide your viewers with a far better experience whilst in lockdown.

From the outset, Tenable has been a terrible idea. This is a phrase which Warwick Davis uses far too frequently during the show, and makes it even more unwatchable. My afternoons should not be spent watching a high street insurance firm guess Britain’s favourite tree species. Nor should it be wasted by watching a midlands gospel choir guess Britain’s ten favourite Iron companies. David Dickinson must be turning in his metaphorical grave.

What makes this worse is that three o’clock now signals the first of three consecutive quiz shows on ITV. Overkill. Have you ever heard of it? Tipping Point is already a stretch of a warm up before the Holy Grail of daytime TV, The Chase. Having one before Tipping Point is simply insulting.

Now I am not one to channel switch during the day, but may I just tell you, that you are losing an incredibly loyal viewer at three o clock every day. If it wasn’t for Escape to the Country on BBC1 at the same time, I simply do not know what I would do.
