ITV: Stop Using Live Animals as part of I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here!

The Issue

First off, I am a fan of the Series and this isn’t an attempt at banning or stopping what people love about the show.

As “I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here!” enters it’s 18th Series I believe that it’s well past time that the producers decided to stop using and exploiting animals purely for the entertainment of the public. In particular the use of animals in the “Bush-Tucker Trials”. How this cruelty of making people hold these animals in their mouth against their will or even to eat these animals alive is allowed, is beyond me.

These trials could easily be as or even more entertaining by making the Celebrities eat foul tasting non-animal based foods, as is shown when the are given fruits. Also the trials with bugs and other animals could easily be changed for Jungle-Inspired puzzle games or challenges, which I’m sure with a bit of creativity, could be much more fun than seeing someone eat a live creature.

This year in particular it appears that there has been a general move by the public, to be more conscious of what they are eating and taking an interest in important issues such as the environment and animal rights.

The use of creatures, however big or small, seems horrendously outdated and I think a large amount of people would agree and support the change.
