ITV to release the Welsh documentary "The Dragon Has Two Tongues" to the people of Wales
The Issue
ITV own the copyrights to a documentary called "The Dragon Has Two Tongues" that discusses vital Welsh history. The Dragon Has Two Tongues was broadcast by Channel 4 and HTV in 1985 with two contrasting presenters: the establishment-oriented former BBC broadcaster Wynford Vaughan Thomas and the Marxist historian Gwyn Alf Williams. According to journalist Huw Edwards, the pair “slugged it out in one of the best history series ever seen on British television. The Dragon Has Two Tongues mesmerised viewers: each presenter vigorously promoted his own story of Wales, engaging in endless argument about people, places and events”.
A YouTube channel called "Wales in the movies" attempted to upload it but ITV requested £147K to keep it on the channel.
We request that ITV follow through with the idea of letting the National Library of Wales YouTube channel upload the documentary onto their channel or let people upload the documentary based on Fair Use Copyright laws that state the documentary can be shared if it is for criticism or research.
