BOYCOTT LOVE ISLAND until it respects dark skinned black women & becomes diverse with cast
The Issue
Anticipation for the return of Love Island UK increased as we all saw it being advertised to have the 'most diverse cast ever'. However, we have been left utterly disappointed!!!!
Below discusses the lack of diversity and the treatment of dark skinned black women on Love Island UK.
Dark skinned black women -
- Dear dark skinned black women, you are beautiful and don't let what you see on reality TV shows such as Love Island impact your confidence. -
We are positive that Love Island know what they are doing by bringing in men who are not attracted to black women; despite these men saying that they are into "Dark features, dark hair" etc.
Love Island has a responsibility and should do better than to portray dark skinned black women as undesirable.
- Dear LOVE ISLAND, If you are willing to have dark skinned black women on your show, then it should be made a priority to bring in some men who are attracted to them. -
Black women deserve a fair chance and are not here to tick a box or for LOVE ISLAND to be able to say that their cast is 'diverse'. They deserve love just as much as the next contestant and should be treated better.
Brunettes, Plus-sized -
Diversity? Where are the brunette women? Plus sized contestants?
Brunettes - The whole cast so far has been 95% blonde. "Hundreds of thousands of women applied to be on the show. Why do they all look the same?"
All types of woman in the UK deserve to be represented on the show and Love Island need to make their cast more diverse.
Body types - "Recent data suggests the average woman in the UK is a size 16 with a 34 inch waist and 36DD breasts, and while the Love Island girls might have the latter, why is there not more representation when it comes to the former? Why, when the average body size is a 16, do the six women picked from thousands, all look to be around four dress sizes smaller than this?" https://www.cosmopolitan.com/uk/body/a21080644/love-island-body-diversity/
Disabilities -
We just want to highlight the fact that Hugo is not the first disabled contestant. Niall Aslam was in fact the first and shouldn’t have been dismissed in the way that he was in order to fuel the “Most diverse cast ever” narrative.

We commend Love Island for potentially taking steps to protect the mental health of their contestants better than they have in the previous years; however, for Love Island to make posts about mental health and trolls to then NOT make their show as inclusive as possible or to respect their contestants seems quite hypocritical
