For the past four years, the class of 2027 have watched their graduating seniors leave Helix Mentorship & and Maritime Academy in white shirts…the white shirt symbolizing both maturity and the finish line of their high-school career. In 2024, the student body proposed that Helix students be given the option between white or black shirts!

The option of the black shirt was meant to mark the beginning of a new era for Helix students. This upcoming year, administrators have insinuated that they intend to have students wear black shirts and navy blue pants. Naturally, Co27 did not receive this change positively.

Us upcoming seniors aren’t so shallow that they only care about the way we look. We care about our voices not feeling heard and the unprecedented, un-asked for changes we feel that we are being forced to accept. 

With this petition, we hope that administrators will give us the option to choose  and not demand conformity. All who sign this petition (Including parents) want the option to choose the color shirts we wear with no changes to our traditional khaki pants.
