It's Time for a Sugar Free Girl Scout Cookie!
The Issue
Hi, I am Madelein,
I am a Girl Scout Cadette in 6th grade. I live in Santa Barbara, California. I like everything girl scouts get to do. We learn new things and get to make new friends. Much of my troop’s activities rely on selling cookies. This sounds great, doesn’t it? I have a problem I need you to help solve.
· The Problem!
There is a problem with our cookies. We do not have a sugar free option. Girl Scouts is all about inclusivity, we bring people together. Young and old, every culture, we are a community. Not having a sugar free option excludes people from sharing in the joy of a girl scout cookie.
· Who does it affect?
This affects people with diabetes, or health restrictions. In our older community this often makes people sad that they can’t relive in the joy of a box of Girl Scout Cookies. In our younger community members we have people mindful of what they eat and don’t want to eat sugar. There are people who physically can not eat sugar with out getting sick.
· Why is this important?
There are people who can not have sugar and find it difficult to find fun products they are able to eat. If girls scout is all about including people, then we should not be excluding people who for medical or life reasons can not eat sugar. We accommodate Gluten Free people, we should be accommodating this dietary restriction as well.
· What can be done?
I propose that we make a sugar free option with Thin Mints and or Trefoils. Thin Mints are our best seller and represent what a Girl Scout is about and would be likely recognized and well received. The Trefoils are a simple cookie and are a classic and already have the least sugar. It is time to make a change. I propose that we make ALL Trefoils sugar free and make a Sugar Free option Thin Mints that troops can preorder like the Gluten Free Option.
· Will you please help me by signing my petition. Little Voices can be heard.
