On October 27, Jagan Mohan Reddy wrote a letter to the IT minister, Ravi Shankar Prasad, claiming that online gaming and betting were severe social evils. The Andhra CM mentioned in the letter that on September 25, 2020, his government had amended the Andhra Pradesh Gambling Act, 1974 to ban online gaming and gambling websites. As per the amendment to the law, those convicted of indulging in online real money gaming in the state would be penalised with up to six months of imprisonment, which could increase to a two-year jail term for repeat offenders.

Chess.com, which is included in this list, is an online platform and community for chess players. Most of its features available free of charge. The site additionally has news articles and tournament coverage. It has hosted online tournaments including Titled Tuesdays, the PRO Chess League, the Speed Chess Championships, PogChamps, and computer vs computer events.

We believe that banning such a website is unjust and detrimental to the future of Chess in India.
