The Issue

This weekend was supposed to be a time of joy, music, and community at the Wicked Oaks Music Festival in Austin, TX. My excitement was palpable as I waited over an hour in line just to park, only to endure yet another hour at will call for the “expedited” VIP lane. Festival goers around me shared the same anticipation—then, we were all hit with disappointment and frustration. As I was walking in, the festival was abruptly shut down due to unforeseen weather issues.

Many festival-goers like myself invested not just our money, but our time and effort to be a part of this unique experience. The cancellation left thousands disheartened and financially strained, with wristbands in hand and no festival to attend. It’s not just about the loss of money but also the loss of an anticipated experience that cannot simply be replaced.

The right thing for the organizers to do is issue full refunds for all wristbands purchased. According to the Texas Department of Banking, consumers are protected under state law, ensuring they get goods and services they pay for. When an event promises an experience that it fails to deliver through no fault of the consumer, a refund becomes not just a kind gesture, but a requirement.

Furthermore, Austin has seen a surge in such events being cancelled due to unpredictable weather, with reports showing a significant number of outdoor events facing similar fates. This sets a precedent for future event policies and the need for robust contingency plans focusing on consumer protection.

The festival organizers have a chance to build goodwill and trust with their audience by taking responsibility and ensuring fairness for everyone affected. Thus, I urge the management team of the Wicked Oaks Music Festival to publicly commit to issuing refunds for all wristbands purchased for the event.

Join me in signing this petition to demand fairness and accountability, ensuring attendees receive the refunds they deserve for the cancelled Wicked Oaks Music Festival. Your voice matters in supporting a just outcome! #RefundWickedOaks #ConsumerRightsUSA
