This day in 2015, I handed over the keys to my home and prepared to leave Ireland for a better life.
I never made that move.
Instead, I spent the next decade navigating a healthcare system that was not set up for people like me.
Today, I want to bring you an honest update on where things stand.
This petition was never just about me.
It is about accountability.
It is about truth.
It is about ensuring that what happened to me does not continue to happen to others.
Over the past three decades:
• My scans were often reported as “clear” - despite showing disease since 2007
• I was not referred to an endometriosis specialist
• I underwent multiple surgeries without appropriate specialist care
• I lost 6 organs
• I endured life-altering, irreversible damage
• I was left to self-advocate within a system that failed to protect me
It took ten more years for Ireland to publish an Endometriosis Framework.
Ten years for pathways to even begin to be acknowledged.
And even now - access to appropriate, specialist, multidisciplinary care remains limited.
Next week I find out what surgery I will be facing - in the UK
This petition is calling for:
• A National Inquiry into Endometriosis care in Ireland
• Full review of historical patient misdiagnosis and mismanagement
• Accountability within the healthcare system
• Proper implementation of the Endometriosis Framework
• Access to specialist-led, multidisciplinary care on the island of Ireland
• Support pathways for those forced to travel abroad for treatment
• Recognition of the long-term trauma and impact on patients’ lives
Because this is not just about delays.
This is about years lost.
Health lost.
Fertility lost.
Financial stability lost.
Lives completely altered.
And this is why people are protesting.
What we are witnessing across Ireland right now is not about one issue -
it is the result of years of systemic failures across healthcare, housing, and cost of living.
People are tired of being unheard.
Tired of systems that do not serve them.
Tired of fighting battles they should never have had to fight alone.
And yet - when people stand up -
they are met with resistance instead of accountability.
But we will continue.
Through Cneasú, through community, through storytelling -
we are building awareness, connection, and change.
If my journey has taught me anything, it is this:
Silence protects systems - not people.
