Remove old insensitive ISM logo from all marketing materials

The Issue

The International School Manila (ISM) is a private, non-profit, non-sectarian school located in Taguig, Metro Manila, Philippines. The school was formerly recognized as the American School, since founded by American and British families in 1920, with the original mascot of a Native American and its logo as and Indigenous insignia. Its name was replaced in 1970's while the mascot and logo remained until 1995 and 1999, respectively. (Source: History Page) Despite removing its cultural insensitive logo and mascot, ISM continues including its historical logo in marketing aspects, like its webpage (see Memoriam Page) and Alumni emails

Speaking as an alumna of the school, it saddens me that my alma mater continues its problematic practices, despite public claiming its growth over the last century. Keeping the insensitive logo only betrays ISM’s core missions to

  • "Accentuate learning, growth, perseverance and self-awareness as life long values."
  • "Acknowledge and celebrate our differences and encourage empathy, compassion understanding, and respect for human dignity"

It's not only crucial for us to remember our history, but also to be aware of our mistakes and correct them for the future. It will only improve the school's image and reputation.
