The Issue

Recently there was a student on the Autism Spectrum who recently ran away from home, because he was constantly bullied by other classmates. For those who don't know the extent of the Autism spectrum, people affected experience, but not limited to "Social isolation. Familial discord. Difficulty forming and maintaining friendships".

After the whole town spreading awareness about his disappearance and many of the classmates that actually had real genuine care about his well-being, he was eventually found with no harm done.

On an Instagram livestream, he decided to let his classmates know that he was okay. After receiving heartwarming comments on his live stream, Lisa Ward had commented "You should not be doing this until after the school day. Students need to be learning right now". This is one of the many disgusting responses that she had given to other students. She didn't even say that she was happy that he was safe and all was well. Instead, she decided to belittle an autistic kid who was BULLIED, just so kids can get back to learning. And what has she done? Absolutely nothing. No suspensions and no stricter guidelines, as the problem will continue to grow worse.

Another instance happened 4 years ago, involving a hazing incident in one of the High School JV and Varsity teams... the person involved only got 1 month of suspension, and that student was scared for the rest of the time they were in high school when he had cross paths into him. Again, no change to combat a situation like such in the future, and a lenient punishment

As I speak, the school had done nothing to combat the rampant bullying going on in the high school, and she will continue to do nothing. We need the school to actually take a walk in their shoes for once, and she has yet to even do that.

This is the time that students and parents start the change. Islip High School will continue to ruin the self esteem of your children if no action is taken to help better the life of their student when they have to walk through those doors enduring constant harassment as the wrongdoers get barely any repercussions. We need change, before this problem goes from rampant to invading the whole school.
