Remove Bus/Cycle Lane from Glencrutchery Road

The Issue

The recent addition of a Bus/Cycle lane on Glencrutchery Road has resulted in significant traffic congestion due to vehicles being unable to use the left filter lane at St Ninians traffic lights.

This measure was introduced (allegedly) to ease traffic flows following the introduction of the North bound one way system on Douglas Promenade.

It is clear to any road user attempting to use Glencrutchery Road that the new measure INCREASES traffic congestion significantly. It is likely that even bus transport is held up at peak times due to not being able to reach the Bus/Cycle lane as a result of the build up of commuter traffic unable to filter left in the usual manner.

The idling traffic is also next to two schools and vehicle emissions will have increased due to increased engine idle times, polluting air quality in the surrounding area.

The Bus/Cycle lane needs to be reviewed, removed and reinstated to its former layout to improve Douglas bound traffic flow.
