Dear Administration of Island Trees High School,

As we have now been in Quarantine for 43 days, it should not come as a surprise that all Covid-19 cases in the State of New York have been the main reason for continuous extensions to the current Stay at Home policies with a sum of 263,000 confirmed cases and over 15,000 confirmed deaths. As of April 7,2020 The State Education Department has decided to cancel all High School Regents Examinations in response to Covid-19 related school and district closures. In a time of unfortunate and unexpected deaths of many individuals. This is a moment where lots of stress and anxiety is present throughout every household. Through research it is shown that every 2 out of 5 teenagers suffer from mental health problems, whether being stress, anxiety, or depression, about 20% of our population has a underlying condition. An approximate 50% pertains to high school students or teenagers. As the school year is steadily coming to a close and those final course examinations will be brought upon us, this bring lots of stress upon students with teachers ensuring them that "they must get good grades, they must pass the final". This stress and anxiety of school final examinations, mixed with the stress and anxiety of Covid-19, this could bring many unwanted and avoidable mental health situations for most if not every student. With all this said we ask that you cancel all Final Examinations for every course taught to ease the pressure and help students cope with staying safe and staying home during this global pandemic.
