Stop the imprisonment and lashing of Marzieh Vafamehr

Stop the imprisonment and lashing of Marzieh Vafamehr
The Issue
Iranian actress Marzieh Vafamehr has been sentenced to a year in prison and 90 lashes for appearing in “My Tehran for Sale,” a movie critical of the Islamic republic’s hard-line policies, and for appearing without a hijab in a scene. The movie premiered in Australia at the Adelaide Film Festival in 2009, but is banned in Iran. Please help us speak out about artists fighting for human rights and people fighting for artists' rights!
RECOMMENDED ACTION
Please write immediately in Persian, Arabic, English, French or your own language:
- Calling on authorities to remove the one-year sentence imposed on Marzieh Vafamehr and to not proceed with the barbaric punishment of lashing which is in contravention of all norms of international justice and human rights;
- Calling on authorities to guarantee that Marzieh Vafamehr will be freed to practice her craft as an actress and filmmaker in Iran.
