Is Rochester NY a safe place?

The Issue

My goal is to have this petition come to the publics attention more, and to have our elected officials increase their engagement and "fix" our crime problem.  Elected officials need to be more accounatble and protect the hard working tax payer!

I want Rochester to be a preferred place to live, and NOT be in the top 100 most dangerous places to live.

With a crime rate of 67 per one thousand residents, Rochester has one of the highest crime rates in America compared to all communities of all sizes - from the smallest towns to the very largest cities. One's chance of becoming a victim of either violent or property crime here is one in 15. Within New York, more than 100% of the communities have a lower crime rate than Rochester. In fact, after researching dangerous places to live, NeighborhoodScout found Rochester to be one of the top 100 most dangerous cities in the U.S.A.

My story: (I know people have had worse crimes happen to them, and my heart goes out to all the victims)

We were at the Rochester Red Wings game.

We did have a great time at the event, but it was a rude awakening when we returned to my car.

I know this sounds like "no big deal" (BUT IT IS) my car was broken into (actually mine was one of six last night) my emergency call was downgraded from a 911 to a 311. (My suspicious is to NOT report in a public police blotter) Rochester keeps promoting a safe city? They wonder why people do NOT come downtown?

My dad tried to flag down two police cars down, and they kept driving...

Do cities lie about their "true crime" and do they care about good tax paying citizens being broken into...

Now, I do have insurance, but it's all up to me now! Take time off from work and call and set the appointment etc... What's the work from the criminal? In fact the police never came out, I have to go pick up my police report... "To make sure it's me?" I guess we are calling in our own crime now, sad...

Time to rise, Rochester, NY!

My best,

Mike

PS The rock that they used to break-in is still in the back seat.

I want Rochester to be a preferred place to live, and NOT be in the top 100 most dangerous places to live.

What crime have you experienced in Rochester NY?
