St. Stephens Hospital - Fully Utilise

St. Stephens Hospital - Fully Utilise
The Issue
ST. STEPHENS HOSPITAL – We want this hospital fully utilised.
The people of Ireland truly sick of having overcrowded hospitals – and let’s be honest, also sick of hearing excuses about them from local and national representatives. To local communities, neighbours, friends and family, it means a higher risk of neglect or poorer care towards those you love. Hard working dedicated Doctors, Nurses and Support Staff can only do their best with what they have, and they bravely do!
What if there was an already constructed hospital facility in your location and it was being underutilised at a time of national crisis? Say, when the HSE is having too many stretchers in corridors elsewhere or stuck for somewhere to keep specialised cases!
St. Stephen’s hospital – a large facility that has Cork, Limerick, Tipperary and Waterford based around it, is such a facility that is being left currently underutilised. Following are the population figures from 2016 Census:
Cork 542,868
Limerick 194,899
Tipperary 159,553
Waterford 116,176
(Source: www.citypopulation.de/en/ireland/towns/
Built in the 1950’s as a TB isolation hospital (wow - that would be handy these days?) with over 500 beds, it resides on 114 acres site. With numerous wards and theatres. With Great M50 motorway access for fast incoming possible infectious, casualties or transferals, it is easy accessible to and from all areas of further Ireland.
At a time then we are at crisis one way or other, we considerate it inappropriate, to be letting this ready-made facility go underutilised. Indeed, the location can be used a central location for sick which also might include elderly. If latter were cared for there, this would be of further benefit to them as they would have the company of their own generation while they heal. Laughter and company are a great aid to a person’s recovery, sitting at home, staring at four walls, unable to care for oneself and being lonely, is never conducive to rapid recovery.
For this reason and more, keeping in mind what the hospital was originally made for, the care of infectious people – and those that need to get out of corridors, their homes, schools, workplace, we call on our elected representatives to do what is right. Work to revitalise St. Stephen’s hospital to a far greater level. Where you and your loved ones can be cared for within this 114 acre site!
Not to do so, may be thought of as neglectful… Wouldn’t supporting those in power to utilise this hospital, to best effectiveness be… a crowning achievement? For our loved ones and progressive politicians and our healthcare System. TOGETHER WE CAN MAKE THIS HAPPEN ~ Now over to you.. WILL YOU SIGN and SHARE….
If you wish to further help highlight this Hospital and our loved ones, I hope you will contact our following elected.
